Practical sales tips

What should I ask when a buyer says “I’ll think about it”?

Find out what remains unclear before responding to an objection the buyer may not have.

“I’ll think about it” can mean the customer is unsure, needs a manager’s approval, needs more time or wants to say no politely. Ask what they are still considering.

Ask without cornering the buyer

Try: “Of course. Is there anything you would like to discuss before deciding?” If they decline, give them space.

Separate the decision from the deadline

Ask what information is missing and who else needs to agree. For example: “What will your manager need to know before approving this?” If the customer says the price is too high, ask what they are comparing it with before offering a discount.

Leave with an agreed next step

When the buyer wants to continue, agree who will do what and by when. If there is no clear next step, record that honestly rather than treating polite interest as a commitment.
